Got a thing for Bounty bars but trying to eat more healthy? You’re not alone! Now you can have your Bounty bar and eat it too with these simple, five ingredient treats for the health conscious (which also go down a treat with kids and at parties).


  • 2½ cups shredded or desiccated coconut

  • ½ cup coconut milk or cream

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (liquid)

  • 1 -2 tablespoons maple syrup (depending on how sweet you like things)

  • 200gm dark chocolate


  1. Add coconut to a food processor and pulse for a minute (if you don’t have a food processor or something similar this should work well enough just mixing everything in a bowl – just make sure to use a finely shredded coconut).

    Shape with ice cube tray, with your hands, or with silicon moulds.

  2. Add coconut milk, coconut oil and maple syrup and mix for a minute or two until it starts coming together (you may need to stop occasionally and scrape down the sides).

  3. There are a few different ways to shape your bites: fashion into bite size bars or bites with your hands; squash down into an ice cube tray (do a test one first and freeze for a few minutes to ensure they will come out whole); and using silicon cupcake or other moulds.

  4. Once shaped, pop into the freezer to harden.

  5. Melt your chocolate in a double boiler or a heat proof bowl over a saucepan of water (don’t let the bowl touch the bottom of the saucepan).

  6. Dip your bars/bites into the melted chocolate to coat then put in the fridge to set on a plate or tray lined with baking paper.

Once the chocolate has set, eat and enjoy!
